Hi all

we are in the process of renovating a 1920s cast concrete bungalow which hasnt been worked on for some time. It is throwing up a number of odd things which we havent seen before

Some of the exterior walls are lined with polystyrene under the wall paper which apparently was added during the 70s as a new wonder material which made the walls actually generate and give off heat  ! (if only).

On removal, we have found this strange black paper-like layer underneath

has anyone seen this before or know what it is? its very thin and almost looks like the black material is mounted on a kind of paper?

many thanks for any enlightenment!

not necesarily solved, I'm a sparky not a builder and can only go on what I've seen and read... but it seems th most likely explanation..
