Hi all,

Having been in our new place a couple months, we suddenly made the rather unpleasant discovery that the radiator next to the toilet was all corroded where it's come into contact with lawd knows what over the years.

I'm guessing that if the radiator had the paint removed the metal underneath would be in okay nick and could be repainted? Are there any easy ways to strip paint off a radiator?

Thanks all,

Russ :)

If it's only a small single panel radiator, it would be easier to just replace the radiator

Its not the paint that is hard to remove but what the boys have been spraying on the rad over the years. Turn the valves off each end of rad then plenty of elbow grease, However it is sometimes more cost effective to just fit a new rad. I fit more replacement rads for this problem than in any other room.

 I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, what happens with the old one? Just end up in landfill, or can they be recycled somehow?

Russ

I just put old rads outside in full view and it dissapears over the hills and far away

Take it to any scrap metal merchant for recycling. He will be so pleased you brought it to him he will weigh it and give you about 50p (if you insist) for your trouble

If you don't want to drive there yourself leave it out front and it will disappear like magic but still end up in the same place.
