I am considering looking at installing unvented cylinders and was hoping someone could give me a bit of info.

I mainly do bathrooms and odd plumbing jobs but generally this does not involve cylinder work with the exception of putting flanges onto vented systems for pumps etc.

Looking to expand into this type of work as times are difficult and diversifying can only help.

Can you please advise:

Is there any specialist work on the cylinders i would need to consider before taking a course or would my general all round knowledge be sufficient. ( Understand fundermentals of different types of systems )

What course would i need to take to become compliant.

As a whole is there much work out there on unvented to be had?

good evening
i did my course a few years ago, mainly because the house were are in now as a unvented cylinder and to be honest have never touched my cylinder or anyone elses and because of that i dont think i would have the confidence to install from scratch or even repair with confidence
thay are becoming more popular especially in flats so i suppose the cost and time of the course its probarly worth having on your cv,but i do think you need to be a qualified plumber with experience to start installing these things
i have gone to many houses have seen the cowboy result and its not pretty
on balance probarly worth it

I think you'd be better off getting some gas qualifications...

There's much more work installing combis etc than unvented, and the unvented work that may come up, you'd probably end up needing gas qualifications too. ;)

Inclined to agree with above, though with you having NVQ2 the coarse may be done quicker, You'll want your level 3.

Thanks fellas for advice . only problem with doing gas is having the knowledge of all the boilers (fixing etc). I imagine this does not happen overnight!
