Hi group, trying to remove the door lock in the picture and replace it with nee. It's for an elderly neighbour who's lost the keys. One of the screws has snapped off in the lock, other removed, the handles won't come off, I've tried prising them but I think as they're that old they've fused to the latch, I've applied some releasing oil to no avail, I don't really want to force it in case it breaks. Any advice would really be appreciated.

Normally you wouldn't need to remove the handle but a lost key is an issue. You have already broken the handle so new handle required ( as screw snapped ) , unlikely the centre spindle is coming off that handle with ease if its rusted on that much ... unless there is a grub screw you have missed on the handle ( but pretty sure not with those handles ). Even if you get the handle off you then need to know how you are getting that barrel out without keys....if you have no idea , then look up a local ' window /door doctor type person , even a local.double glazing company , as many do repairs these days... it is a fairly straightforward job tbh but you have to know , and be confident , in what you are doing as to prevent further damage
