We're near the end of an extension and are now pretty much waiting on our new front door. We'd planned to buy off the shelf, but they were 14 days delivery. Instead we saw a website with 7-14 days delivery, made to measure, so we thought it'd be a better option. The upvc door finally arrived (21 days later) and our door fitter and builders have both commented on its quality. Basically,
(1) It has front facing drainage, even though it has a cill - we've been told this is wrong and drainage should be concealed.
(2) It's advertised as having a 70mm steel reinforced sash and frame, we thought this would mean the door would be strong and heavy, however it feels quite flimsy and is lighter than our current door (which isn't particularly strong)!

What we'd like to know is whether 70mm reinforced steel should make a door strong/ heavy and whether front facing drainage is ok. Our builders have one point of view, the sellers another. We're running out of time and money, so any help would be appreciated.

Face drainage is no issue, It can be done either way when fitted with a cill. It just looks a bit neater with concealed drainage.

Steel reinforcement is usually just a 2-3mm thick "u shaped" section slotted into the chambers to reduce flexing, It dosent add much weight.

Post some pics and the make/manufacturer if you want some comments on the quality of the door.

If the door is meant to have a cill then ideally it should have concealed drainage. However having face drainage instead won't alter the performance of the door at all. I wouldn't worry about it. Being a front door in an extension I take it nothing has been stated about it having to have a wheelchair threshold?
If the door is reinforced you should be able to see some small screws around the outside edge of the frame and the inside edge of the sash. Get your builder/fitter to take one out. You might be able to tell what reinforcing is in there.
What did your suppliers say about these issues?

The thickness of the door frame will be 70mm, not the steel re-reinforcement. This could be very little, depending on the door.
