I have an outside walkway between the house and my brick outside office. It currently has a box standard garden gate.

I want to be able to access the office without passing through the house.

If i replace the gate with a upvc front door and frame,. it would allow access and be lockable.

Will the upvc door mechanisms be compromised ( rust/ jam etc) if i use the door externally like this?

Hi,

They seem to exist in that condition in nearly every allotment I pass! ;)
I wouldn't worry too much, but get one cheaply from eBay, rather than spending a lot of money on it! :)

Give the lock mechanism a good soak in WD 40. It will dry into a protective coat of wax and help prevent it rusting and seizing.

Be careful with WD40 on door locks ... It tends to dissolve/dilute the grease within the mechanism , WD40 is technically a water dispersant and used to free up seized mechanisms
