If lunatic atrocities begin to take place on a regular basis could our economies survive?

Is the terrorist destined to win in the end, gnawing from the inside?

At the end of the day, given the Irish supposed 'end game', should our leaders attempt to hold dialogue with Al Qaeda, if there actually is a core leadership? 'Know thine enemy ..' .....We do not seem to really do so, at present.

Is the 'destruction' of the infidel the real goal? Or is that what some would have us believe, thus maintaining the fear factor.

Could it really be mostly about a fair shake for the downtrodden, at the moment... or has that moment passed by?

The truth about the IRA was not the talking but they were a spent force with no where to go.

The Irish supporters were lost as to what they had achieved and any support they had there was dribbling away.

The Omagh bombing by the Real IRA and 9/11 finished off any possibility of a military campaign ever again as they were classed as terrorist scum in the same group who did 9/11, in other words the Americans couldnt see any difference.-----the end.

When support and more importantly the money dried up, they tried to boost their coffers with a bank raid which almost finished Sien Fien aswell.

The British goverment had been talking to the IRA since the early 1970's---so talking to these people doesnt mean diddly squat--they actually see it as weekness.

The saying goes that actions speak louder than words, Britain and America should show evidence that they are prepared to pull out if it means an end to conflict.

But just maybe, not listening ?

On that point Pipme what do you think they didnt listen too???

Not to be taken as a suggestion that Osama Bin Laden should be made a leader anywhere, but..

Eamonn De Valera was leader of Sinn Fein, rebel against the Crown, sentenced to death, later became Prime Minister.

Nelson Mandela - leader of ANC's armed wing, organiser of sabotage attacks, fundraising and paramilitary training. Sentenced to life imprisonment. Later became President and was awarded Order of Merit by HM Queen, and Nobel Peace Prize.

Archbishop Makarios - similar relationship to EOKA as Jerry Adams to IRA, exiled by the British, later became first President of independent Cyprus.

Menachem Begin - "terrorist", leader of "unconventional warfare" attacks against the British, hunted by both the British and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, later became Prime Minister. Also awarded Nobel Peace Prize.

Just trying to point out that things are often not as cut-and-dried as some of you seem to think...

I know diddly squat about the Irish troubles.

But if there is a real desire to look at a problem and find a real solution then it must be possible... But only if people are prepared to get down to it ... Ground must be given and taken.

One gets a very uneasy feeling about Iraq and our presence there.. WMD etc.
I am aggrieved that the likes of Rumsfeld was active in the building of the Iraqi menace .. Now we are paying heavily to help dismantle it.
