Last week, I put a deposit on a 01 Citroen C5 HDi......financially, its a bargain, but I have a slightly uneasy feeling. Some seem to have the opinion that the C5 is a shed, and that I shouldn't just walk away, I should run. I have a year's warranty from a main dealer, it has a full main dealer service history but still.......am to collect it on Sat

People do seem to rant about Citroen's - reliability, problem suspension blah blah blah, but personally, I love 'em. Had a Xantia 18 months ago and it was one of, if not the, best car I ever owned.

If you've got it for a good price, and with a year's warranty, you're laughing - well done, you shouldn't be disappointed.

One word of advice though - if they tell you that replacement spheres aren't covered by the warranty (and they probably aren't), then DON'T have them done at the main dealer. It's a surprisingly cheap job to get done, IF you take it to a small independent specialist.

Thanks mate ! You're not a Citroen dealer, are you ?

Looking forward to getting back into a diesel.....had an octavia TDi for about 4 yrs and loved it.....the C5 is about EUR 2k cheaper for the equivalent and this is the 110bhp !

Here's hoping...will be driving this one until it falls apart......later rather than sooner hopefully.... Cheers

i know its old post (well a month)
I have a 110 C5 HDi
not a bad big car...
just watch the following... (all failed within 18 months) but that was 75k miles.. car has now done 145,000 miles on an 02 plate!

Gearbox refused to go into 1st and 4th... required rebuild.. (£2k)
Replaced clutch at same time

Rear trailing arm bearing failed...£500

Injectors clogging.... (was told by citroen that i needed new ones.. at £500 a pop.. and i needed 4!).... stuck some comma jet cleaner through it.. prob solved.

Intermitant problem with oil level gauge.

Air con failed £250 fix for new pump and gas

Overall i have done 80k miles in it now and its cost me about 4k in repairs..
plus new tyres every 20k miles.

overall.. good car if you need the space ...
but got a nasty shock from citroen as a trade in... i paid 6k for the car 18months ago... but with the miles i have racked up now....valued at £1k by citroen!!!

Thanks for the reply

Am starting to see some worrying things myself.......There is a nasty vibration through the steering wheel, which i thought would be fixed by getting the alloy wheels balanced...no joy....in the space of about 4 secs, the vibration starts, increases and then goes away...thought about getting some cheapo steel wheels but they were costing the same price as new alloys ( EUR 800 ) with all the various stuff that needed changing with them.. Hoping that the dealer will do something to resolve under warranty. Also, a bit dissapointed with the economy...my old Octavia averaged about 55mpg....getting 43-44 from the C5.

Still have an uneasy feeling but am hoping that the big grey bus doesnt become a big grey shed !!!
