Back on topic. The OP raised all this last year, just using the forum for non DIY purposes.

Actually, I raised this point last year when I asked for opinions on the job, but I didnt take any further action at the time. My latest post follows the visit from a SE who commented and advised. (And I think both posts do fall into the DIY/building category.)

In any event, if I would take another builder, apart from word of mouth is there any way I would be able to find a trustworthy capable builder for the job? Does being a member of the FMB mean anything?

Not as far as experience goes as no qualifications required unless it has changed.

They may check for financial liabilities/bankruptcy/CCJ but I can't remember definitely/
