What is the reason why people do not use insulation on copper pipes within the property if this for example can keep the hot water in both radiators and the supply to taps, warmer for longer? The cost is almost inconsequential.

builders often don't, saying that heat lost from pipes within the fabric of the house just helps to warm it.

The fact that they can't be bothered is seldom mentioned.

Pipes under ground floors, or in unheated parts of the house, especially lofts, or on an external wall, should be insulated. Not only will you be wasting heat, you may get a frozen and burst pipe. An extra-thick grade of insulation, called "Water Regs" or "BS" is much thicker than cheap stuff.

Hot pipes around a boiler or cylinder, and going to hot taps, should be insulated.

I don't think it's a case of not being bothered. It's not like they would do it for free now is it? I agree as it's not lost heat and gives a bit more heat to areas that aren't by a radiator. Under the ground floor is a must for obvious reasons.
Another reason I don't do it that regs state you shouldn't notch more than an eighth of the depth of the joist when running pipes. When you consider that most joists are 8 inches and you need an inch to run 22mm pipes, this doesn't leave much room for any worthwhile lagging.

Also there's only 1/2" spacing afforded by standard pipe clips limits the application of "water regs" lagging.

But that should not be a big problem if you just don't cover the pipe part where the clips go or where it is right surely like in u-bends etc?

Sounds like you all recommend insulating the internal pipes then. Will make sure to tell my builders. thx.

you can usually trim the foam with a serrated knife to make it fit in tight places.

Spacers are available (for Talon & other brands) clips to provide the stand-off required for insulation. The spacers can be stacked to provide more space.

The clip-together pipe clips are fairly useless.
