I have seen some people squirt sealant/adhesive on the threads of bath and sink waste, along with where the tap sits on the bath. Is this advisable and which product should I use for this please?

Depends on what seals come along with the fittings. If they are good/substantial seals then nothing is needed.

I personally use a little sealant on the bath waste seal that sits under the bath. I also use a little in the gap around the basin waste under the basin prior to placing the seal and tightening the nut. Any good quality antibacterial silicone - Dow Corning - should be used.

Our plumber had to seal the tap to the bath for us, as the bath had the top curve into it close to the tap holes and the bottom of the taps were flat, and so showering above them allowed water under the bath
