My friend has a spare netgear dg834gt Sky branded wireless router. Is it possible to use this router on my Virgin broadband to get wireless. I currently connect through my USB port on my laptop and this comes through my BT telephone line.
You can tell Im an amateur so basic speak would be much appreciated :D .

When you say virgin do you have cable or is your broadband delivered down a telephone line ? Virgin do both.

If you have broadband down the phone line then the router should work, the router will not work if you have cable.

Yeah I have virgin broadband down the BT phone line, Not cable.
Thanks for the info I'll give it a go and see how I get on :)

Get it working on wired first (on one of the 4 ethernet ports) before attempting wireless. Really all I can think you will need to change is the ADSL user and password.

The router has some specific sky tests/settings built in accessed from the maintenance page but shouldnt cause problems.

If the router is a standard Netgear rebranded with modified firmware, you could quite easily update the firmware and remove the Sky branding.
