Using the slates again

What is the usual amount of slates which can be reused if you are stripping off the roof to place a membrane down and redo the battons ?

The roof is in great condition (slates that is), but is 100 yrs old and the flashings in the valleys are thin and do need to be replaced as well. Hence i was thinking about doing a reroof myself.

I understand slates will be broken when lifting them up, but if they are good and the nail holes not too worn, do you just reuse ?

So i would like to know a usual percentage for loss you work to so i could work out my figures. Thanks

Personally I never expect to save more than 50%, if you do it is a bonus.

Usually you need to re hole second hand slaes.

There isnt a normal salvage rate, its just a wait and see thing
