Using the stairmaster more simply

The stairmaster is a thing u put on one leg of the ladder on stairs. It's a pain because taking the feet off the ladder with screws takes time. What's the better way to use it?

Take out screws on one end and gaffer tape it or put the black mat (as on pix) on end without any feet?
