Last couple of Mondays (after a weekend off) I've had to re-light the pilot on our Vaillant Combi.

Today I try to do the same and have no pilot light. It will not 'spark' and the whole boiler is making a 'pumping noise' which it wasn't before.

The pressure is on zero, but has been for some weeks I've noticed, and it worked okay up until today.

Not sure which type of boiler it is, the codes 182e / 242e / 282 E are on the inside door.

The re-light mechanism is a red switch which is turned 45 degrees to fire the pilot.

Oh, and I'm a complete ignoramus when it comes to this stuff, so use small words please. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

When you have repressurised it then if you need further help you must look on the boiler to find out the exact model and confirm that its a combi ( or not ).

I assume that you have not had it properly serviced lately?

Manufacturer's recommend an annual service!

Thanks chaps,

A little search told me I needed to find a filling loop, which I did, and hey-presto I've got the pressure up a bit and it's working fine.

We had a leak on a rad the other week, I guess that's where the problem came from.

Re. servicing, yep I'm sure you're right, my home one is checked regularly. This is an office one, it lives in an out-house, not near anyone and I've only recently taken over responsibility for it. Time it got an MOT though.

Thanks again.
