we have a vailllant 424 with no water pressure. when we try to add water its goes out of the overflow pipe, is ther another way to add water to the boiler

Is this actually a 400 series fitted to a sealed system, or is it actually a 624 system boiler or an 824 combi?

A 424 doen't actually exist!

sorry vaillant turbomax 242e combi boiler
we have had a plummer to look at this and he says it needs a new circuit board and a new water meter guage cost about £300
as the boiler is 13 years old we don't think it is worth spending this ammount

Before adding water you need to know what the pressure really is.

It sounds as if your gauge may be blocked and the pressure perhaps adequate.

If the PCB is failed then the boiler may not be working anyway.

sorry what is the pcb guage?
the boiler will fire and light but does not sound too good, the pilot light won't stay on.
how would we tell if the water guage is blocked?
