I would be very grateful for some advice re the above problem - I have searched some of the other similar posts but can't find one that matches.

Our boiler produces plentiful very hot water when the Central Heating is off, but the hot water temperature is significantly lower when the heating is on. The only way to get beyond luke warm is to turn the flow down to very low (useless for baths, showers, etc.).

From a bit of checking, it seems that the problem is worst when the radiators have fully warmed up. When the heating is first turned on and for the next ca. 20 mins, we can still get hot water, but after that it is warm or tepid depending on how low the flow is. The problem also seems to persist for ca. 15-20mins after the CH is switched off.

We have had a plumber in and he thought it was the heat exchanger, so he took that away and cleaned it, but it has had no noticeable effect on the problem.

I appreciate the information provided is somewhat limited but if anyone can shed any light on what the problem/solution is likely to be it would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me like a typical failed diverter valve!

Try hot water with the heating flow valve turned off.

They turn better with an allen key!

Hi Tony - many thanks for your very quick reply.
I have tried hot water with the CH flow switched off as you suggest - the water temp increased marginally (a few degrees), but did not go hot.
Does this change your thoughts on the problem?
Best regards
Graeme
