Vaillant weather compensation - which heating curve?

Can anyone give me a quick idea on how-why to choose a specific (steep or shallow) heating curve, and what I should base my decision on?

The manual for the Vaillant VRC 430 isn't very helpful in explaining which one should be best for different situations. I'm guessing it's basically down to how well insulated the house is...
