I am still consistently having to remove noise source by adjusting the valves on our central heating radiators. The Gas Central Heating System was only installed in January 2011.Boiler Vokera and Altech valves. The installer is not very co-operative stating"expansion and contraction of pipes when hot" which does not help me fix the problem! The slightest of adjustment to the valves stops the noise ca anyone help in layman's terms?

The noise is a clanking at the valves stopping immediately when slightly turning the 0-5 valve setting .The clanking noise travels up and down the pipes, not a hissing sound - quite loud at times.Running around the house adjusting very frequently!

Remove the heads from the Altech valves and see if the noise goes away.

If it does, the noise is due to the valve "bouncing", which is often caused by the system not correctly balanced.

Remove the caps from the valve at the other end of the rad (lockshield valve). Using a suitable tool (pliers etc) turn the valve spindle clockwise (looking down) and count how many turns until the spindle stops turning.

If it's up to one and a half turns, the installer has made an attempt to balance. If it's more than that, the system has been badly balanced or not balanced at all.

Set the valves back to their original position.

If it's not been balanced you can read how to do it in How to balance a CH system
