I share my water with the neighbour through a 3/4 inch black polypipe. We both experience pressure loss when one or other has something taking water.
I had the water co. give me a price for two new connections, £1300. Even one new connection is 1k.
Neither of us are that wealthy.
The water engineer suggested we could simply take the 25mm blue from the stop tap in the street and connect 32mm pipe round to our houses. He said this would give us better pressure and flow than the present arrangement.
I do want to repave the whole area where the pipe runs and the contractor reckons he can do that for a lot less.
The distance from the stop tap to our house connections is ~20 meters and I am certain it's all 3/4 inch black poly.
Should I expect a good result or is it going to be waste of money?

You have not been clear with your costs.

If you both fit 32 mm to the street then you are halfway there.

If its not good enough then you spend more for a street connection.

the costs are between £1000 & 1300 for Bristol Water, depending on whether we want two new connections or just one. Although, since 25mm is the maximum BW can supply of the 3" main, it seems pointless to have two new connections, when the current connection is 25mm blue pipe.

For the new pipe trench to our houses, it is very labour intensive. Most of the trench is down a 1 meter wide pathway, with no easy way to use a digger efficiently. So that could be ~£1000.

What I don't understand is how the 3/4" black poly is not sufficient for even one house. Yesterday I did a little test, I opened up the kitchen tap, it's the closest to the incoming, and then opened up the shower, off the combi, low pressure through the shower. So it would appear that even 3/4" cannot adequately supply one house when two taps are open at the same time.

I am hoping that changing from 3/4 to 32 will at least give us more flow.

I wouldn't go to the trouble without getting an assurance of flow rate from BW.

You could well upgrade to 32mm MDPE and find it only delivers a marginal improvement.

Or if they can't offer any guidance (no surprises there) lay the stuff on the ground first (it's cheap) before going to the expense of burying it.
