VAT on education?

Fertility rates by area

Fertility rates in England and Wales have been in overall decline since 2010 (Figure 2). Between 2022 and 2023, the total fertility rate (TFR) for England and Wales decreased from an average of 1.49 children per woman over their lifetime to 1.44; the lowest rate on record.

Is it really so hard to click a link and see a graph going down?

The usual Motorbiking BS.

“Refer to the data” says Motorbiking, knowing full well the data doesn’t prove anything
Proves declining birth rates. But it doesn’t suit the narrative of the left and appears to have been ignored by the guardian

Some more facts…

Fewer children are being born in England and Wales and the fertility rate is at its lowest level on record. But as we can learn from earlier generations, this is not the entire picture when measuring long-term fertility.

Annoying isn't it.

The article being discussed is about one particular year based on the intake for "Year 7".

MBK says there is a big drop in pupils in that particular year.

All I want is to see the actual figures. I don't want to wade through spreadsheets.

"The Independent Schools Council (ISC) says some members reported a 4.6% fall in Year 7 pupils in September, in figures seen exclusively by BBC News".

Year 7, the year most pupils stat secondary school.

They’re not interested in the data. Apparently.

I am interested in your data attacking the Guardian article. You have provided some generic articles. But nothing which backs up what you wrote about the actual year in question.

Nice swerve by the way!

VAT on education / schools

Benefit of brexit ????? For the government / labour ??

Cowardly? I’ll quote if there is another post between mine and yours. If mine is the next post, it’s obviously a continuation. I suggest you adjust your settings so that you get an alert that someone has replied.

And while you are at it read the guardian article again and see that the headline doesn’t match the article.

Referring to me as MBK could be argued the same btw.

Yes, cowardly. Also bad manners.

Sorry you feel that way. It was unintended. I would suggest you read the guardian story again.

It claims the forecasted impact failed to come true, while also reporting areas where there were problems, despite falling births leading to lower demand. At the same time it has been widely reported that private schools have felt a noticeable drop.

So it seems like a bias article to me. Something that would have been stated by others had it been sourced from the daily mail claiming the reverse.

I haven't even read the full article. My only interest was in the birth rates you mentioned. I'm not sure I can even work out which birth years are important! They are talking about "Year 7", which presumably means children aged 11 when they start. So for an autumn 2024 intake, are we talking about children born between September 2012 and August 2013?
