I have a 1.7 diesel combo, the other morning it would not start at all.
I took off one of the fuel injector pipes and no fuel seem to be coming out.
I have now changed the fuel filter, and filled the filter with fuel before i reconnected the pipes.
The engine runs until the fuel in the filter has used up then stops, you can restart but only for a few seconds.
Could this be a problem with the fuel pipe or the fuel tank.
I have looked at the fuel pipes under the van and none seem to have any leaks.

Take your pipe off and give a blast of compressed air down the line back to the tank, it may only clear it temporarily, but at least you'll know where your problem lies

if it was the pump surely it wouldn't run at all?

Most of the modern diesels no longer have a fuel lift pump,so the injector pump has to draw the fuel along from the tank through the filter. Then it pressures up and supplies the injectors. It's possible yours is not pulling too well,so starving the high pressure side. Most likely though, you have a loose joint or pinhole allowing air to be drawn in.My old low-blow astra used to empty the filter and stop if I hadn't got a perfect seal on the banjo joint,it didn't help to tighten it up more,it had to have new copper washers.I don't think yours has this type of filter though?
