vax 25-003 - runs slowly

Vax wet and dry cleaner, not been used for a while and now only runs with both the red and green buttons pressed.

Runs very slowly but sometimes picks up speed.

Is it motor or one of the switches, and how do I get the damn thing apart? Got the handle cover switch off but all I can see is one bolt head.

Juast looked again - with the sopeed setting fully up it runs, but only with the green water button pushed in, with the speed turned right down the fan does not turn. Does this mean it is the pot that controlls the sopeed?

Having fiddled around a bit with the connections and put the cover back on it now runs but only fast so looks like the pot - can anyone confirm my suspicion?
