hi all,i'm putting a velux window in a small, lean-to, pitch roof, of which the span is 2200mm so i'm using 100mm depth rafters (according to building regs is fine for such a small span). will 100mm rafters be sufficient for the velux?
My bc officer insisted I double trimmed my rafters when I put in my velux.
My span was 3.3m and I was already using oversized rafters 175mm from memory.

Rule o' thumb: trimming rafters to each side of the velux = 1 + (cut rafters/2) eg 2 rafters cut for velux install = two trimming rafters either side. Wider velux sizes might need more than two trimming rafters; inadequate sizing results in dishing of the roof surface over time. Look at any number of terraced house roofs with velux cut in, for an example.
