Personally I believe in democracy.
What is it with you, despite Trump openly admitting that he has no interest in democracy whatsoever and that its all about the money, you still believe that Trumps actions are motivated by wanting to make the world a better place.

To be fair to Trump, he isn't unique apart the the fact, that unlike previous Presidents, he doesn't bullshit about wanting to spread democracy, he says openly that the rest of world owes America and he is going to make sure that they pay up.

I did answer this the other day, Int'l law is much like the Pirate Code in the film Pirates of the Caribbean, They're more of a sort of guideline.

I think guideline is understating it. But everybody has to make a personal moral decision whether to comply with the law, whether it’s Covid rules, international invasion etc.

He is either super confident or just not bothered because there have been no real consequences for him that he has not been able to shake off. He is a unique elected autocrat. History records dictators who came to power via the ballot box.

What is international law? Who imposes it and what are the penalties? It hasn't done anything to deter Putin, Xi, Assad and Maduro to name a few, some of whom have sat on panels deciding when it has been violated.

In this case, we are looking at the prohibition on attacking other countries under Article 51 of the UN Convention. The only exception is self defence. Venezuela wasn't attacking the USA, therefore Trump's actions were not self-defence and so they were illegal under international law.

It's widely known that his government is not recognised by most of the Western world. However, Maduro is just a side show. His government is still in power.
