I understand the captain was detained.

Not surprised.

Saw this yesterday I thought the statement made was it occurred due to a technical failure, bit generic. Maybe the interface between the captains seat and steering wheel failed.

Perhaps the interface was taking cocktails with the ladies in the bar lounge?

Unfortunatly not that unusual.
Ships have a lot of momentum, are hard to stop, and turn better only when under steam.

Only a few days ago, a tourist boat of trippers was hit and sunk by a bigger ship. This small boat was also ties up at the side. "involved in a collision" is a very tactful way of putting it.

It seems it was an engine fault. Captain tried all options to stop and reported it.
