Vent and fill pipe

How close to the inlet of the pump can these be located. Can they be positioned in the vertical or do they have to be horizontal.

Please comment.
 
The vent pipe connection should be vertical. Feed doesn't matter. I don't think it matters how close you are to pump inlet, but of course the feed connection will be closer than the vent, and the two should be close to each other.
 
Just to clarify. I have a vertical pipe to above the header tank but I'm not sure about the vertical or horizontal positioning of the connection to the system.
