Hi All,

have a kitchen which is about 10' x15' approx.

Until a few years ago we had a big, open floor standing gas boiler. However, this was replaced with a room sealed combi. We still have a four burner gas cooker.

In the wall is a large open vent, probably 10"x10". It's a concrete thing with small, square holes that go all the way through.

Do we still need this for the gas cooker? If so, could we get a smaller one fitted due to the fact the boiler has gone? Are louvred or draught free types now available?

(We are getting dreadful draughts through this vent)

With the size of your room . You dont need it for the cooker . providing you have an openable window

Yes, we have an openable window, quite a large one too.

Roughly how small does a room have to be in order to require a vent, assuming a "standard" gas cooker?

With only a cooker, its based on the volume of the room!

Ventilation is needed if below 5m³ if there is a door to outside.

Ventilation is needed if below 10m³ if there is NO door to the outside.

In both cases an opening window IS required !

Sorry, I have now edited it to correct the 5m² situation!

He was probably still all excited at grassing me up on the CC .
Wrong ventilation advice Agile can kill should you really be giving this out on a public forum

The actual advice before editing to correct was in the direction of added safety so there was safety issue involved!

It was a typing error.
