Hi all,
just a quick question, does the vent pipe not have to go up into the loft F&E tank?

its not a vent pipe, its the flow into ya cylinder (to warm ya hot water up).. the vent is only there to get rid of any air trapped in the pipework, n it dsnt need to go into the loft

Ok thanks for that , i always thought this system was vented and the primary system had a vent pipe that bent over into the F&E tank??!

Or maybe that was in the olden days!!

heres whats in the loft , 1 cold water tank with vent from secondary system (without hole in the lid!!) , and 1 F&E tank with no vent going to it which was why i asked my original question.

Both tanks dont seem to have overflow pipes either!

have seen it done before the theory is that the expansion just backs up the cold feed

and i would get some o/f pipes on if it decides to overflow it will be in the middle of the night you can bet money

LOL - yeah, i'd put an extension on that vent pipe and a hole in the lid, you can see where it has at some point pushed something out and stained the lid already

... No overflows at all !! - not a good idea, if the store tank is fitted with a full bore high flow valve, and it gets stuck open for whatever reason, it wont matter if it's the middle of the night or not, you'll know far to late to prevent any costly damage, as kev said....

Yes.
But I aint telling y'all.
As my old grandpappy used to say manners cost nothing.

I think you should have another look at your system- are you sure your boiler does not have an expansion vessel/pressure guage. If so that would explain things as it is standard/essential practice when converting to sealed system to cap the primary flow with a bleed vent.
