Hi everyone we rent a property from a family member which was built in 1938, we get really bad condensation most mornings now autumn is here, other than the usual methods to help etc could the fact that the ventilation bricks in the loft have been sealed add to this issue?

Why do some people cover these bricks up?

Vent to loft prevents condensation in loft.
You need good ventilation , fans to kitchen and bathrooms and no washing drying indoors to prevent condensation problems.

Thanks, does it matter that the vent bricks are sealed up?

They look like vents to the rooms not the loft:unsure:

Yes good point, however there are no vents in the rooms where these exterior ones are placed or are they just for the space in between the room walls?

Perhaps the inside ones have been plastered/papered over? What are neighbouring houses like?

I'd bet that the vents have been plastered over. We have the original vents on our 1947 brick build and although they are uncovered outside they are totally rendered and plastered over inside. Never had any condensation over them as they are so high up.

As already said, never dry clothes inside, open/latch the windows at different points when possible to promote the replacement of air and don't leave things leaning against cold walls otherwise you'll get mold. Ultimately insulating the walls internally makes a huge difference and was one of the first things I did when moving in. Have not had mold since.
