Could anyone tell me, if a fireplace has been blocked off how big does the vent hole have to be to adequately vent the wall?

We temporarily block ours off each winter. I have a piece of polystyrene board with a 60mm hole in the centre, which draws enough to keep the damp away.

Is yours permanantly sealed or have you cappped the chimney?

the fireplace is bricked up and plastered over, however I do still have one working coal fireplace in the lounge, all the rooms including the kitchen had fireplaces at one time and all apart from the lounge have been blocked off.

Is the chimney capped? You'll need to check that as well.
