Very confusing CH pipework! anyone know if this is right?

This is the collection of pipes in my cupboard. we have a open vented system and i have a real issue with my radiators not getting hot (system cleaned, bled, balanced with what heat there is).

I think something isn't right but am far from an expert. any ideas?:

From your picture everything looks to be piped in an incorrect order for an open vent system.

There's more compression fittings than I'd expect to use in months, but that's beside the point.

From what one can see of the pic what you say can't happen.

For example the by-pass can't be hot if one side is cold.

Other than that it's all wrong but needs better pics or an as fitted drawing.

Auto bypass is fitted incorrectly.

I suggest if you have all TRV's in the house remove the cap from one.
Or if you have a radiator without then this is fine.

Screw in the bypass to that it won't be operating or only under high pressure.
That should force it into the central heating.

System is badly piped but should work.

I suggest you pull the tap on the zone valves across so that they are open.
That should get the heating on.

Did someone just get a bucket of random plumbing fittings, open the cupboard door, chuck it in, shut the door and hope for the best?

Check that the CH valve is motoring open.

What looks to be the flow from the boiler has a couple of connections low down by the cylinder, may even be the returns teed in.

Would have helped if the boxes etc had been moved before the pic was taken.

The whole thing make sense if the pump is in the return.

The left pipe disappearing into the floor would be the return to the boiler and the middle one is the flow from the boiler. The right one is the flow to the rads.

The ABV is then between flow and return.

It would help if the OP told us which boiler he had and verified how it is connected to the pipes going into the floor.
