Hi......I know its really easy to fit 3 spotlights in place of my existing pendant light....BUT....I'm a ceilings and wall builder...not an electrician :)
So..I've studied the DIY book at home...I just need a bit of guidance.
I just need to wire up 3 spot lights (240v / 50w) straight into mains as no transformer with this kit....I've put some links to pictures showing exactly what I'm dealing with and what junction box I was told to use....But I'm thinking do I require a 4 pin junction box instead of the 3 pin box i was sold?? Any help would be totally great you wonderfull people!!! :)

I am really struggling with this forum...cant seem to get pictures onto this screen!!! Seems everything electrical is against me...I never use computers!
Maybe the link will work...if not some help getting pics from image shack to here would be cool! :)

Hi,

http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/994/lightsprob002.jpg

What you need is a 4 terminal terminal box. This needs to remain accessible.

One terminal you put all the red cables. NOT the one with the red sleeving just all the red cables. These will be loop in from the previous light or start of the circuit and loop out to the next light as well as permanent live to one side of the switch.

Second terminal you put all of the blacks. This is the neutral and there should be two one for loop in and one for loop out.

Now the black cable with the red sleeving is switched live. This goes into a separate terminal and this is terminal three.

Now you take a peace of new 1mm twin and earth the neutral goes to the second terminal where you put all of the blacks. Current cable will be blue here. The live goes to the terminal three with the black cable and red sleeving.

Now you need to deal with the earth's or circuit protective conductors (CPCs). The last terminal put all the green yellow sleeved cables in there and sleeve the new peace of 1mm and put its earth in there as well. Now the new peace of cable can go to the first light.

As you have three I would use two more junction boxs for each light.

All this needs to comply with Part P and 17th edition BS7671.

Hope that helps,

Adam

That red sleeving is likely to fall off.
I would suggest taping it on for now till you have connected up.

If it Does fall off, you will have problems working out what black it was on.

grab some of the missuses red nail polish and pt a little dab on the wire you need marked..

alternatively, try warming the red sleeving a bit, it might shrink.. as i found out my earth sleeving did when i left it on top of the combi microwave overnight and did my bacon in it the next day..

worked out a treat.. never liked baggy sleeving and it happened to shrink from 3mm dia to a perfect fit on the earth in the 2.5 T+E..
