very old mains stopcock, leaking like a sieve

the stopcock in the outhouse is leaking very badly & I need to replace it , the pipework seems co be iron, what size is it likey to be, the house is over a hundred years old, I know I need to turn off the water in the street. I have done lots of plumbing rund the house but never with iron pipe. any help you can offer woud be great

This isn't a job for an amateur.

And if you don't have a service valve in the street/pavement then you need to book an outage by asking your water supplier to turn off when you want it off and on again when you want it on again.

Unless you have a brilliant reason not to, now would be a good time for you to run a new MDPE main from the distribution pipe at your boundary to a new stop tap inside your property.
