Very puzzling toilet seat

I'm trying to fix the soft close on my toilet seat (toilet and seat are Jacuzzi brand). What is really confusing me with this toilet seat is that the fixings seem to be non-existent and there is no way to remove the toilet seat! Feels like I'm missing something very simple. I have attached some photos. I've used an allen key on the two silver parts of the hinges and I get a small piece of metal (like a mini screw) coming out of both - each is very small, smaller than half of a grain of rice.

Any advice on how to remove this toilet seat so I can get at the pistons to fix the soft close would be very much appreciated!

Next to each metal hinge there seems to be a plastic clip. Is that removable? Might reveal/enable some release mechanism.
