Was in someones house today compalining that when they run the HW or Cold, after a few seconds to a minute there a vibrating noise through all the pipes in the house.

Now typically all was well when i was in the house. apart from a few seconds where i thought somone was using a pnumatic drill in the loft all the pipes at the cylender vibrating like hell and such.

now it happens on HW, and cold, but also on the cold mains tap, so rulled out the storage tank as an issue, is it likely that this is a fault in the main stop cock? jumper washers or whatever their called?

never had any formal plumbing training apart from a few says soldering CH pipes so wanting to find out the answers to all these mysterys of plumbing :)

cheers

Start with renewing ballvalve washers wherever they exist. Its basically water hammer. A resonance in the pipes caused by the velocity of the water passing through. Loose pipework, elbows instead of bends, tap washers, and high water pressures are other causes.
