I've been given some vinyl planks and intend to install in one of the bedrooms in the house. What kind of underfloor would I need??. It's bare floorboards but obviously I know I can't lay direct in these. Would it be best to lay onto thin plywood or cork boards, or would something better be recommended. The room wouldn't be very high use but want something that's not going to fall apart ..

Not an expert but, I'd have thought some fairly thick ply, making sure that you have ironed-out the worse of the dips in the boards and floor beforehand. I've done this by simply laying strips of vinyl into the dips and then adding board on top.

Apologies for not stating. They are glue down self adhesive

As Daz says, 6mm or 9mm Sp101 flooring grade ply is essential, feather coat the joins and screw heads then glue tiles direct.

Watch some YouTube video on prep. Don’t fit on ‘normal’ ply, it will likely delaminate and the floor fail.
