What are the advantages of Vinyl emulsion over normal emulsion? I was quite surprised at the price difference between the two and wondered whether the Vinyl has advantages worth paying the extra for.

Vinyl paints are basically more hardwearing and wipeable than standard (contract) emulsions. This is because they contain latex which gives them a more 'rubber' like quality, for want of a better term. (Vinyl paints are called latex in America, where I currently am.)
The disadvantages are that they dont allow substrates to breathe, so any moisture within it will not escape, and hence you get problems with peeling. For this reason, contract matt is the best option for newly plastered walls because it allows any residual moisture to escape before applying a vinyl emulsion, if you so wish.

Thanks for the reply. Standard matt emulsion will do me just fine and it is a lot cheaper.
