Virus

The pc we have at home has a fault. When you switch it on you get that screen asking whether you wish to start up normally, in safe mode, last known good configuration etc. Whichever one you choose the machine re-boots and the same screen returns.

Someone told me this is caused by a new virus, does anyone know if this is true and what can I do about it?

OS is xp home.

I saw a screen save a month ago that had this, has a screensave been downloaded. Sorry cant help more that this.

You don't have a wireless keyboard by any chance do you? This will produce the same syptoms, put in a wired one temporarily until out of safe mode.

Yes I do have a wireless keyboard, I will try this tonight.

Failing that, create a boot log.

Then use a startup disk to boot to a command prompt to view it.
