Visually is there a difference between a warm and cold roof?

Looking a flat roof externally, are there tale tale signs that show that indicate if a roof either has a cold or warm roof construction?

The flat roof has been finsihed/ plastered internally/ GRP finished externally

Conspicuously deep fascia boards is a usual giveaway.
 
A cold roof should be ventilated and the vents are usually visible. having said that, there's a lot of cold roofs out there that haven't got vents.
