I have been having problems starting the van in the mornings, once it's started it's fine and will start in the daytime if its been left for a few hours. I was advised to park the van on a hill(pointing downhill) overnight to see what would happen. Bingo..it started first time. It seems that there is an air leak in one one of the fuel pipes and the diesel was draining back into the tank. As this is such an old van I didn't want to spend 3 or 4 hundred quid on a bloke who might not find where exactly the air leak was so I upgraded the battery to a high cranking amp model which turns the engine over faster thereby dragging the fuel back through and it has worked a treat. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for that and welcome to the forum

Pointing it down the hill, to see what happens, was a stroke of genius .............
