help please lol.i have a vauxhall vivaro 1.9 diesel 53 plate.it has been playing up for months now & i have tried almost everything. To begin with it is limp when starting from cold i cant get past 2000revs & it is throwing out white smoke & not enough power to pull off.I have changed the
EGR valve,
the cam sensor
the MAF sensor
the oil filter
the air filter
the diesel filter.
There is no metel filings in the diesel filter, does anyone have any ideas as im at a total loss, could this problem be caused by the MAP sensor? Thanks to anyone who replies to this message & if i dont reply straight away its because im busy with a sledgehammer & 1 vauxhall vivaro van!

it started to happen about a month ago, since then i have changed all the parts i have mentioned but no luck ,thanks

You say that it is throwing out white smoke?
White smoke is burned oil
Check this problem for oil leak to the induction or piston rings or......
I believe that this smoke may cause the problem
The diesel is clean?

mine doing exactly the same - also 53 plate, 99,000 miles.
Had new turbo, and air flow sensor !! still the same

PLEASE has anybody got a clue what this is!!!!!

White smoke can also be unburned fuel which could point to injectors or low compression, although if this were the case it should also lead to uneven running. Are you only getting the white smoke on start up or all the time? Have you had the fault codes read?

Peter

Are you definitely sure that no-one has put petrol in by mistake ?. This can cause the problems you're experiencing.

you may be better off finding a local recommended specialist that can read any codes and diagnose the problem. They can suffer with all sorts of issues from fuel pumps to dodgy wiring and guessing at it is a waste of time and money.

Blue smoke is burnt oil black smoke too much fuel or too little air, white smoke possible head damage water in combustion chambers.

Bluish white smoke can also be unburnt/partially burnt fuel, look at the cold start exhaust from an IDI engine with duff glow plugs.

Peter

Try changing coolant temp sensor
Reason
If the engine thinks its cold the glow plugs will keep firing
Worked for me

White smoke is almost definitely water being burnt in the combustion chamber, but could also be brake fluid being sucked in. With loss of power, it points to head gasket, cracked head or cracked block, assuming correct fuel is being used. Is it losing water? Is there water in the oil or oil in the water. A knowledgeable mechanic with a cooling system tester and a compression tester should be able to narrow it down, so it's probably worth investing in him if you've tried all else. No point spending more until you eliminate the head first.

Glow plugs don't keep firing, they are on a timed relay, operated by the start position of the ignition switch.
