VMwarePlayer 16 (latest)

You speak for everyone or just convey your personal irritation ??
Ah, probably just a little control freakery.

And we want this why?
It is quite useful for emulating a non Windows environment on a Windows PC when running factory software on car diagnostic tools. Saved myself £600 by resetting the fault counter on my cars FRM module when BMW said the only way to repair it was to replace it....

Don't get wound up pip, I was asking why we would want this?

Bodge has given a good explanation thanks.

BTW, can this create the virtual machines or is something else needed for that?

You have to supply the 'guest OS'.
VMware creates a 'software' virtual machine on to which you install a supported Operating System. You choose size of virtual disk- again all in software.
Can be pretty much isolated from the host machine.

On my Win10pro 'host' I have 3 extra OSs to experiment with.
A one version back Win10Pro and Linux - Ubuntu 20.4.
The Win7 prof' 32bit is needed for an old 1995 CADD program, this will not run in compatibility mode on the host mc.

Good description of VMs
