This boiler has a "rattle" which sounded as though it was coming from the plate HE at the thermistor end. Removed HE and flushed it through and replaced. Rattle still there. Anyone come across this problem before. It sounds as though there is a bit debris somewhere. It doesn't appear to be affecting boiler operation as yet and is hardly noticeable after a while it's just annoying to me. If I'm going to start stripping pipework and components out to find it, is there a washer/seals kit available for this boiler?

I saw one of these and at first without taking the cover off thought the fan was on the way out.

When I came to examine it in more detail I found the noise to be coming from above the pump.

I descaled the boiler in situ and the noise reduced by about 10 dB and was left as it was and its still operating fine.

In the manifold that the dhw thermistor is screwed into is a small white non-return valve, sometimes the spring on this gets weak and it rattles when the pump is running. Turn off the gas to the boiler at the isolation cock whilst the boiler is running and the rattle is there. The boiler will goto fault code 01 but the pump will continue to run. If the rattle is still there then it's mechanical and is probably that non-return valve. If the rattle stops then the chances are it is scale because scale is only noisy when it has heat applied. If it is the non-return then it's far easier to strip it out by removing the dhw heat ex first but when reassembling fit the dhw heat ex before making a final tighten of the 3/4" and 1/2" nuts.

Is what you are describing the spring loaded valve on the boiler bypass?

If so then its purpose is not as a non return valve but as a pressure release valve at about 3 m head.

They can rattle as you suggest. However in my example the noiler seemed to be from the pipe above the pump.

Thanks for the replies. Obtained a copy of installation manual today and spotted in the drawings what I thought was a filter. This must be what weargas has described as the NRV. Is it a serviceable part or does it require replacement. Have sorted out replacement o rings and washers but don't want to dive in now in case I have to source another part.

No, it's the non return valve to prevent the boiler pumping primary water back through the dhw heat ex when in ch mode I meant not the by-pass.

solo, not really a servicable part if the spring has weakened but I don't think it's break the bank for a new one. vokera part no 2908.
