Hi, looking for some help/advice if possible!

My back boiler is done and I'm looking to upgrade as I've had nothing but problems the past three years with my heating and HW. My heating engineer has recommended the above type of boiler in the 25HE size.

I'm having the whole system (pipes, rads, boiler etc) replaced.

Is the boiler he's recommended any good?

He's also quoted me £2650 for the work. It's a two-bedroom flat and requires 5 rads.

You have to add the power to come to any conclusion.

I would never recommend a boiler less than 28 kW nowadays.

Thanks for the reply. It is 25KW but has models at 30KW and 35KW obviously with a price differential.

The heating engineer assured me that 25KW would be more than enough for my flat. My biggest concern is getting a decent flow from the HW taps and to my mixer shower in the bathroom.

I have two sinks (one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom). Realistically the only time I will draw from two HW taps at once is in the morning when my missus is in the shower and I'm having a shave in the sink.

I would have serious concerns about the technical knowledge of a "heating engineer" who tells you that 25 kW will be enough to heat your flat!

The reality is that your flat will need about 7 kW but the hot water requirement will be at least 28 kw which would give you about 11 litres per minute with a 35*C temperature rise. To me that would be just about adequate but would not run a kitchen tap as well as a shower or bath tap.

The rating of a combi boiler is chosen by the hot water needs and NOT the heating!

Tony,

Thanks for your advice. Re the HW he gave me a leaflet with all the info regarding output etc.

For the HW there was the following table:

Flow rate - 35 Celsius rise (l/min)

For the 25KW model it is 10,2
For the 30KW model it is 12,3
For the 35KW model it is 14,2
