Been asked about installing a high capacity electric boiler ( 3 phase boiler) Customer has installed solar panels and battery storage (10kw)

It’s a gas boiler at present and I believe they’re looking at around 30/40kw electric in its place.

The solar install is calculated to give a 70% reduction on bills but this is without allowing for the electric boiler. I know nothing about the electric boiler or whether this is even the route to go down. I’ve been asked to have a look through a joiner I do some bits for.

If anyone has any knowledge or pointers for me before I go on Friday I’d be grateful.

An electric boiler is 100% the wrong thing to even consider and will cost an absolute fortune to use, solar or not.

If they want to replace the gas boiler for heating, then a heat pump is the only sensible consideration.
If it's a gas combi, then hot water will need to be provided via a cylinder, not heated on demand. That could be via a heat pump or immersion heater, both of which can be powered via their solar / battery arrangement.

1754520235218.pngI have half that size, at 6 kW rather than 10 kW so he will get double what I am getting, however even at double, 194 kW is not going to be anywhere near what an electric boiler will use. 6.2 kWh per day is about half what I use, I am only getting 3.1 kWh average per day in December, plus about 5 kWh stored from off-peak in the batteries, so I have around 8 kWh from off-peak and solar, and even with oil central heating, I need around 12 kWh. So 5 x 8.5 + 4 x 30.17 = £1.64 per day plus standing charge, 66.11p so around £2.30 a day or £71 for the month.

In my house, the solar will not cover General Electric use, never mind heating.

Using the solar to cool the house yes, but to heat it, not going to help.
