Wall Brackets for Floating Shelves

Are these the thick shelves that seem to hang there without support?
If so I made some recently from 2" x 9" flooring joist. I chiselled out a 15mm square section from each end - set 1" back from the front face, so you won't see it when up. Then I used two 15mm square sections as mounting brackets. They fit snug and can't be seen when up. The shelves were then stained, they look great!
