Three of our bedrooms have these cork tiles on the walls. Our house is maybe 40 years old. I've taken off some tiles in one of the rooms, but the adhesive stayed stuck on to the walls. Now, I see brown patches on the walls where the adhesive is. Can someone please tell me how I can take the adhesive off, aside from peeling it of bit by bit?

Thanks,
Mila

I don't think you can expect a useful answer because you obviously don't know the type of adhesive used. Whoever fitted the tiles could have used anything - even petroleum-based contact adhesive. Dependent on the wall surface you could scrape or chisel it off. I doubt if solvent is the answer.

Nor have you said what the walls are made of. In England it would most likely be plaster covered breeze block or plasterboard. For the former, simply chisel off the glue patches and re-skim with plaster. For plasterboard, peel off the top layer of cardboard, carefully, and re-skim.

I don't think there's an easy way unless your wall structure is radically different from ours - but that might make it worse.
