just bought a light with pir for outside the house the instructions say to protect it with a independant 3 amp spur could i just plug it into a socket using a 3 amp fuse ?

You could do it this way.

But what would probably look better (depending on your current wiring) would be running a FCU of your ring circuit and fusing down to 3 amps, connecting the pir to the FCU.
