i have 2 wall up lighters that i cant get the screws to screw in the wall as there is no space to get a screwdriver in there, i also have a snake screwdriver but there seems to be no pressure there for tightening the screws, i cant find a small screw driver to fit as i cant graps it,any ideas please before i lobb em out the window.

A picture says a thousand words

Failing that could you confirm if these screw you mention hold the unit to the wall or hold the unit on to a frame that's already been fixed to the wall?

I take it that there's no power / that you've sitwched the power of (while working on it) and that the light bulbs are out, not in the way and can go back in after the unit finally gets screws in.

you normally put the screws in the wall 1st leaving about 1/2 inch sticking out of the wall, you then place the uplighter onto the screws and it should drop down to fix

i think he means those plaster moulded jobbies?

if so they are a complete pig at times.try drilling the holes at a slight downwards angle, use a sharp bit.

I've got a small (100-120mm long) ratchet handle that takes standard 1/4" hex bits - very useful for tight spaces, and if you can get a finger from your other hand in there to apply axial force to the bit, quite effective.

Most multitools eg. leatherman, gerber will let you hold a screwdriver blade out at 90 degrees where you can't fit anything else in too.

thanks in all ur replies, i cant put screws in first as i have one horizonal and one vertical place for screws, oh this is doing my head in, i need a miniture electirc screwdriver, although i have a driver that folds in half, still no good

the screws hold the unit directly on the wall. the lights need to be lush to the wall, this is why cant insert a screw first and lift the uplighter on as there will be a gap behind them.

just smash them to pieces, that can be very satisfying at times

must quote to you all i am a woman and dont understand all the jargon words :( lol just cos im a woman please dont say what do you expect. :)

We can't really give much more advice until we see a photo of the offending item

I think you are meant to screw Two L shaped hooks in the wall first , then the light just hooks over them.

We have quite a few plaster uplighters and our are fitted using some special screws that came with the fittings (don't know the name of them, one end is a normal screw thread and the other end, where the screw head would be, is a finer thread with a slot in the top), these were screwed into the wall with a normal screwdriver so the fine thread was still sticking out of the wall, the uplighter placed on these fine threads so they stick out inside the fitting, then nuts fitted with a spanner inside the fitting to hold them flush to the wall.

No idea if you can buy a similar sort of screw in the DIY sheds.
